PSEN University: Transgender 101 for Surgeons

PSEN University’s upcoming course, Transgender 101 for Surgeons, is an online multispecialty course led by plastic surgeons, psychologists, urologists, endocrinologists, and maxillofacial surgeons.

Although some plastic surgeons already perform chest and breast surgery on transgender patients, this course offers a broad overview of the surgical and non-surgical management of the transgender patient, and is aligned with WPATH’s fundamentals certification and Standards of Care. The course begins the psychology of gender dysphoria, provides an understanding of the referral letters, and instruction related to patient evaluation, language use and history. The weekly sessions continue with an overview of surgical options, from facial feminization to metoidioplasty, and includes information on coding, health policy, and patient safety (5 credits) as it relates to the management of the transgender patient.

This course was created in partnership with WPATH's Global Education Initiative and adheres their SOC, 7th revision. Credits may be used toward Foundations in Surgical Training for the WPATH the member certification program.

This live, online, 10-CME course will meet for 9 weeks in a virtual classroom each Wednesday, at 7 PM (CST). For those who cannot attend the evening webinar, a recording will be available within 24 hours.

Led by Loren Schechter, MD, this multispeciality course included the following topics and guest instructors:

Featuring commentary on the Standards of Care by WPATH President, Gail Knudson, MD
